ARTIST SATEMENT

The figures in my most recent series are enjoying peaceful pastimes in tormented surroundings made of lushly textured surfaces. Finding the tension between figure and ground is what motivates my compositions. I work exclusively in oils. The sensorial nature and pliability of oil paints give me the ability to layer and build a multi-dimensional surface, one with a rich history. On the flip side exists the need for patience; to endure the drying time required by the materials, and accept the delayed gratification which is essential to the process of painting with oils. Visitors will also enjoy a rare opportunity to acquire pieces from an earlier series.
